Work – It’s Good for You – Part 1
Do you know that God gave us His principles for our good?
Our founder, Larry Burkett, used to say, “God’s principles are His way of saying, ‘This is best for you.'” Follow them and you’ll avoid self-induced pain, loss, or missed blessings. So what principles did God give us as a means of saying, “This is best for you regarding your work?” Well, I’ll cover 3 today.
A major part of adult life involves work. Our careers and the jobs we hold earn money, develop our character, and enable us to minister to others. Solomon said, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…” (Ecclesiastes 9:10) He also said, “He who is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.” (Proverbs 18:9) In other words, give your best effort; don’t hold back when asked to do even the most menial tasks. The Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” We’re to work hard. With excellence. As unto the Lord. Did you get that? Finally, Proverbs 14:23 says, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”
Work is God’s method for providing for our needs. Not gambling, not get-rich-quick schemes, or praying that money falls from the sky. We’re to work hard, with excellence, as unto the Lord. That’s what’s best for us!
