The Importance of Budgeting
Do you use a budget?
Bankate’s latest Money and Mental Health Survey shows an interesting statistic. Less than a third of Americans reviewed their budget between mid-February and mid-March. Most people don’t want to spend the time it takes. Since it’s definitely worth your time, the simpler the budget and the more that is automated, the better. A Bankrate Financial Analyst says, “Finding time to build a plan for spending and saving should be like finding the time to do your taxes. It’s a necessary part of maintaining your financial health, and you should prioritize it accordingly.” Without a budget, you can only hope your money will take you where you want to go. Would you go on vacation without reservations or driving directions? No! Would you set out just hoping that it will all work out? Of course not! You’d take the time to research and plan to maximize your time off. The same applies to budgeting! You are God’s steward – entrusted with maximizing what He provides.
Experts say there are several reasons to have a budget. First, it shows where your money will be spent. Second, it can help you change your spending habits. Finally, you’ll save more when paying yourself first. So, automate your savings, and since the Bible teaches us to honor God before ourselves, automate your giving as well.
