God Looks On The Heart
When it comes to our finances, God looks on the heart.
As a frequent traveler, I’m quite familiar with the rules and regulations for luggage. The primary rule is the size or volume of the bag. Far more important, however, is the content – what’s inside the bag. The airlines must know what’s inside your luggage, so much so that they take an X-ray to see what you’ve packed. Similarly, man looks at the size of a bank account, the size of a business, or the abundance of their possessions. We’re preoccupied with volume when it comes to money, and I can assure you that most financial teachers make sure that your primary focus is on volume as well, but God examines our hearts. He’s more concerned with its content than the size of our earthly treasures. When Jesus confronted the Pharisees, he said their cup was clean on the outside, but dirty on the inside. What man saw appeared good, but God could see the dirt, and what did His X-ray reveal? That their cup was filled with greed.
Have you considered that you might find financial success in man’s eyes, but be a failure in God’s eyes? He told us to clean the inside of the cup first, and the outside will also be clean. So, how do we accomplish that? First, ask God to reveal to you any attitudes that need to be made right, like greed, coveting, selfishness, dishonesty, or pride. Next, seek His wisdom before making financial decisions. Be patient and wait on the Lord, and finally, seek first his kingdom and His righteousness above financial gain.
