Trust God and Keep Your Lives Free From the Love of Money
Is your life truly free from the love of money?
The Bible warns us to never to love money. Yet, placing our security, confidence, or trust in money is similar to loving it. Hebrews 13:5–6 is one of my favorite passages regarding money: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’” The implied message here is that money will leave you and forsake you, but Jesus will not. Our hope, security, and confidence must rest in Christ and His kingdom, even while faithfully stewarding the resources we temporarily manage on Earth.
In Psalm 118:8, we read, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.” Are we really willing to put God in control of our finances? He promises to satisfy our needs, but can we trust Him with everything? What about trusting Him with losses? We must do our best to faithfully steward the temporal resources we have while trusting Him for the future. The only sure treasures are those we deposit into an eternal account. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) So, put your faith, your confidence, security, and all hope in Christ alone. Keep your lives free from the love of money! That’s the freedom I hope for you today!
