How To Be Content
Are you content right now?
Do you think having more, bigger, or better will bring you joy? I want you to think again. True joy is not found in what you can buy, but we have an enemy – the Deceiver. He will try to convince you to spend money on things that will never satisfy, and if you don’t have the cash, he’ll convince you to buy anyway, then burden you with consumer debt. This bondage distracts millions from a close relationship with the Lord. Paul said he learned the secret of being content, whether facing plenty or hunger, abundance or need. How did he do that? Well, a few verses back in Philippians 4, Paul said, “Rejoice in the Lord always…. Don’t be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 4,6-7)
So there’s the secret! Adopt the habit of practicing God’s presence at all times. Dwell on his love for you, then pray about everything while giving thanks and His peace will flood your soul. It will guard your heart and mind so you can say “No” to things of this world and “Yes” to things of God. Ask Him to reveal bad habits that are blocking your relationship and spiritual growth. Weed them out and plant God’s Truth. Then, practice His presence. Dwell on His love. Pray with thankful hearts and you will find peace, joy, and contentment right now.
