Crazy Money! Faithful Stewardship Impacts a Christian University
It’s Crazy Money Day!
“Bill” Dukes was a decorated military hero. A WWII Marine colonel, he earned a Ph.D. and taught finance at Texas Tech’s College of Business for 45 years. Dukes was a godly family man married for 73 years. He was a person of great dignity, respect, and honor, the kind of man you’d want as a friend. Over the years, he developed a friendship with two deans at Abilene Christian University’s College of Business Administration. Their mission aligned closely with his own values. Desiring to bless the students and faculty in ACU’s finance department for years to come, the late Dukes and his wife left them $29,000,000. It’s the largest single academic gift to ACU. The Dukes’ Excellence in Finance Endowment is “to glorify God by helping populate the world with Christian men and women of influence and ability who understand and live out Luke 10:27 – ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and, love your neighbor as yourself.'”
That, my friends, is a vital reason to steward your finances wisely. When you learn to manage money God’s way, you can leave a legacy that impacts the world for years to come! It does require a plan. Just as we can’t build houses without blueprints. We can’t have the financial structure of stewardship without blueprints or plans. A budget is a short-term plan. Future needs are met with a long-term plan. Dr. Bill Dukes and his wife demonstrated crazy faithful stewardship!
