Choose Your Hard and Let’s Go!

What hard thing are you choosing right now?

Giving up Smoking is hard, but having Cancer is also hard. Marriage is often hard, but divorce is also hard. Fitness is hard, but obesity is also hard. Forgiveness is hard, but broken relationships are also hard. Saving money is hard, but financial stress is also hard. Getting out of debt is hard, but living with credit card debt is also hard. We must all decide which challenge we’re willing to face.

My pastor recently taught how Jesus faced hard things Himself. On the night Jesus was betrayed, he took Peter, James, and John with him to Gethsemane and asked them to pray. He knew what he’d soon be facing and didn’t want to be alone. His soul was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. He fell to the ground and sweat great drops of blood crying “Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not my will, but what you will.” Even though the disciples fell asleep, Jesus continued to pray. Strengthened, and motivated by love, he rose and said, “Let’s go! Here comes my betrayer!” He accepted the hard journey that lay before him. God wants us to come to Him with our challenges. He will give us the necessary strength and courage. Filled with His love we can whisper to ourselves, “If this hard thing is your will Lord, let’s go.”
