Building Roots and Facing Fears

Are financial fears holding you back?

I recently discovered a fantastic home improvement show by HGTV called Building Roots. It features Ben and Christi Dozier, super-talented designer/builders who hail from Texas, my home state. They started Root Design Company in 2004. Today, they and their 4 children work out of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. After just one episode, I recognized that there was something special about this couple. A little research confirmed it. Some of their core values are: Love God boldly. Serve others well. Christi says that Ben’s taught her what might be possible on the other side of fear. She says, “Failure is a given, yet every setback is seemingly followed by a redemptive comeback. They call it ‘Failing Forward,’ and that mindset is what’s helped them build their distinctive company.

Now many of us know financial fear. Can I pay the bills? Will I get a raise? Will I get the job I want? Should I really try to get out of debt? Fear requires that we trust the Lord. He gives us strength and courage and He grants us the fortitude to take risks so we’ll move out of our comfort zone. Isaiah 41:10 says that He will uphold you with his righteous right hand. Oh, we may fail, but He’ll pick us up and we can ‘Fail Forward’ just like the Doziers.

And if credit card debt is causing you fear and stress, I recommend that you contact Christian Credit Counselors. They’ll create a debt management plan that can work for you. For more information call the Crown Helpline: 800-722-1976 or visit online at crown.org/ccc
