Chuck BentleyWe’ve been talking a lot lately about the huge differences between man’s economy and God’s economy.

Today, let’s take a look at retirement.  In man’s economy, we work really hard so that one day we can retire in luxury.

In God’s economy, well, there is no retirement.  God wants us to stay engaged and productive and purposeful for as long as we can.

Sure, we save for old age, but loafing through our golden years is not God’s plan for us.

So maybe it’s not a bad thing that fewer and fewer Americans are actually retiring in the conventional sense.  These figures from MarketWatch.com might surprise you:

  • Retirees on average get about 30 percent of their income from working. In higher income brackets it’s actually more like 40 percent.

  • Almost 38 percent of workers 65 and older worked full time last year.

  • According to RetirementJobs.com, a majority of us plan to retire in our 70s, not our 60s.

  • That same study showed that a significant number of folks are choosing to keep working because it makes them happy and they want to engage with other people.

Well, most workers saw their investments devastated when the recession hit.  That’s terrifying if you’re trapped in man’s economy.  But if you’re living in God’s economy, you believe His promise that He will provide your needs and you can be at peace.  And that’s a powerful witness to others who don’t yet know the Lord.

So, forget about retiring in man’s economy and make plans to live a full and purposeful life in God’s economy.

Retirement Planning

Without a doubt, planning for retirement is important; but even more important for Christians is achieving or receiving God’s best in their lives.

Retirement: Is it Mandatory?

When planning for retirement, workers should not try to protect against every eventuality. But they should prepare.

Being Content

Contentment is knowing God’s plan for your life. Therefore, seek God’s will for your life, then trust God’s promises.

Social Security Retirement and Survivor Benefits

Although most American workers have no choice in the matter—paying Social Security tax is not an option; it is mandatory.
