Chuck BentleyThere may be good news on the way if you’ve been out of work for awhile and you’re nearing the end of your unemployment benefits.

Congress is considering a measure that would extend jobless benefits another 13 weeks in states with unemployment higher than 8.5%, and right now, that’s over half of all the states.

You hate to see Washington spending more money, but at least these funds would directly help folks who’ve been hard hit by the recession.

Now, here are 3 things you need to know if you’ve been out of work for an extended period of time:

  1. The 13-week extension has already been approved in the House and the Senate is expected to take it up soon.  It’s hard to imagine that President Obama won’t sign this measure.

  2. Be careful not to take advantage of these extended benefits.  The job market’s tough right now, but you’ve got to look for work in good faith to be eligible for unemployment payments.

  3. The Body of Christ is ready to help you.  Seek help from your local church.  Let folks know the type of work you’re looking for.  And check out Crossroads Career Network, at CrossroadsCareer.org.  It’s a church-based career ministry that can help you network and sharpen your job hunting skills.

You know, man’s economy is filled with fear and uncertainty about the future, but God’s economy offers us peace of mind in good times and bad.  If you’d like to find out more about the blessings of living in God’s economy, we want to help you whether you’re employed or unemployed. I hope you’ll visit us at Crown.org.

Choosing the Right Vocation

In choosing a vocation, Christians must weigh their priorities very carefully. When people are out of God’s priorities, they are out of His will.

Job Loss

Dealing with lay off is not pleasant, but look at the lay off as an opportunity that can be conquered.

Making Career Decisions

Most Americans need to unlearn the errors and then learn the truth regarding career decisions.

Work as Unto the Lord

Being God’s emissary on the job is not difficult; it’s impossible. Only by yielding our rights to Him can the world get a glimpse of Him through us.
