Chuck BentleyYou know, all of us parents want our children to do better than we have, especially in areas where we hope they can avoid repeating some of the mistakes that we made.

Now money is one of those areas where most of us want our children to get it right.

Last time I told you that kids need to learn that God owns everything—that we’re His stewards.  I also told you that kids must learn to serve God, not money, and to be content with God’s provision for them.

Well, today I’ve got 3 more lessons for your children, drawn from the greatest book ever written.

  1. Proverbs 14:23 says that all work is profitable.  Children need to know the value of work and that it's a blessing, not a curse.  Model hard work and diligence for your children and they will learn that our work gives glory to God.

  2. Acts 20:35 says that we should be generous, especially toward the poor.  The greatest hedge you can give your children against materialism is to teach them to be generous. This will bring them priceless joy and prepare them for supporting God's work during their generation.

  3. Philippians 4:8 tells us to dwell on whatever is excellent.  Help your children discover  the skills and talent that God has given them and encourage them to excel. By doing so with humility, they will become salt and light in the workplace.

Now, these aren’t rules to be followed in fear.  God gave us these instructions so that we’d be happy and free.  And what better gift could you give your children than teaching them to live according to God’s economy, not man's.

Teaching children about finances

Since parents should be the primary instructors of their children, biblical principles of finance must not be neglected.

Materialism vs. self-esteem

More children believe that their clothes and brands describe who they are and define their social status.

Work as unto the Lord

Being God’s emissary on the job is not difficult; it’s impossible. Only by yielding to Him can the world get a glimpse of Him through us.

Being content

Contentment is knowing God’s plan for your life. Therefore, seek God’s will for your life, then trust God’s promises.
