Have you seen that show on the Discovery Channel called, Dirty Jobs? It’s a huge hit, probably because it makes folks feel better about their own jobs.

Well, one thing’s for sure, none of the jobs on that show ended up on the Money Magazine/PayScale.com list of the best jobs in America.

The survey looks at hundreds of different occupations and ranks them according to salary and growth potential—in other words, will we need more of these jobs in the future?

Here are the top 3:

  1. The third best job in America is College Professor with a 23% increase in the number of jobs expected over the next 10 years.  At the university level, the pay is excellent and you enjoy great freedom in scheduling your own work.

  2. The second best job in America is Physician’s Assistant. They’re expecting 27% job growth. You need a master’s degree but the earnings are great. PAs do a lot of the routine stuff in clinics and hospitals, and in most states, they can even write prescriptions.

  3. The number one best job in America, according to Money Magazine/PayScale.com’s survey—Systems Engineer—45% job growth expected over the next 10 years. Systems engineers oversee big projects like transportation networks or defense programs, and apparently, we’re going to need a whole  lot more of them in the future.

Choosing the Right Vocation

In choosing a vocation, Christians must weigh their priorities very carefully. When people are out of God’s priorities, they are out of His will.

Job Loss

Dealing with lay off is not pleasant, but look at the lay off as an opportunity that can be conquered.

Making Career Decisions

Most Americans need to unlearn the errors and then learn the truth regarding career decisions.

Networking

The most effective method of finding a new job is through contacts—the people you already know or those who know the people you already know.
