Are you a stay-at-home mom?  Would you like to boost your family’s income?  If so, you may have what it takes to be a “mompreneur.”

What’s that—you ask?  Well, the short definition is a woman with kids who starts her own business.  Fed up with trying to find a job that allows her to work from home, the mompreneur becomes her own boss.

It’s not just a pipedream—millions of American moms have started businesses and they’re making a significant contribution to the nation’s economy.

Here are 3 things you need to know about mompreneurs—from Entrpreneur.com:

  1. According to the Center for Women's Business Research, over 10.5 million women have started their own businesses with a breathtaking $2.5 trillion in annual sales.

  2. Most moms already have one of the most important skill sets for running a successful business—multi-tasking.  And if you need help juggling your family and business obligations, support groups like HomeBasedWorkingMoms.com or the National Association of Women Business Owners have sprung up to lend a helping hand.

  3. Your children aren’t a liability—they’re an asset.  Many moms who start their own businesses find ways to involve their kids in the enterprise.  Not only are kids a ready source of labor—but working in the business gives them a chance to learn important skills that’ll help them later in life.

Now, if you think you can be a mompreneur, ask God for guidance, develop a plan with lots of counsel and input and be sure you understand your field really well.
