Who would believe that a great-grandmother giving cooking lessons would become one of the smash hits of the Internet?

It’s true, though—93-year old Clara Cannucciari has become a celebrity—she even has her own YouTube channel and website—GreatDepressionCooking.com

The recession has millions of Americans looking for ways to save money around the house, and Clara’s depression-era cooking lessons and recipes have certainly struck a chord.

Her videos are filled with homespun wisdom about cooking and life, drawn from nearly a century of her experience.

So what kind of advice is Clara dishing out?  Well, here are 3 great tips you’ll likely hear on Clara’s videos:

  1. Plant a garden.  You’ll not only produce low-cost food for your family—you’ll be eating healthier, too.

  2. Prepare your own meals.  Eating out is a nice treat once in a while, but good old-fashioned home cooking will save you a fortune.  Clara also says you should make cooking a family affair.

  3. Use and re-use.  Don’t throw away anything that still has value.  If it breaks, fix it.

What I’m getting from Clara’s lessons is that we should live frugally, waste nothing, provide for our families and respect our elders.  Now where have I heard that kind of advice before?  Oh yeah—in the Bible.  I’m just sorry it took a recession to get Americans interested in stewardship again.

You know, the advice in God’s Word is timeless, regardless of the economy. I hope you’ll take a few minutes of your time to find out more at Crown.org.
