Money-Saving Tips
Tip #1 - Children are cheaply entertained. You can make a game out of practicaly anything. Teach them the games you learned as a kid. No matter what they say, your time is more valuable to them than material possessions. Tip #2 - Try for a rate reduction on your credit card. Call your credit card company and politely ask for an interest rate reduction. Ask for the supervisor if the first person says no. Tell them you'll transfer your balance elsewhere if they refuse. Tip #3 - Make sure you're drinking plenty of water. Most of us are walking around chronically marginally dehydrated. Drinking enough water has definite health benefits. Plus, the more water you drink the less you eat, so you'll save on your food bill. Tip #4 - Steer clear of the fast food drive-thru. Make simple, healthy meals and cut back on fast foods and convenient foods that are expensive and high in calories. Tip #5 - Quadruple that casserole. It's almost the same amount of work to produce a quadruple batch of a casserole as a single. Freeze the extra into convenient meal size portions. You'll save a fortune in time and money. Tip #6 - Never leave a room or your house without turning off the lights. It takes only a few seconds to make sure the lights are off and it will pay off big time on your electrical bill. Tip #7 - Switch to compact flourescent lights or LED lights where possible. They use less electricity and last longer than incandescent bulbs. Tip #8 - Check out yard sales. You can save a lot by checking out yard sales, but make sure you're not just buying junk, but something you really need. Tip #9 - Check prices at the grocery store. Groceries are a huge part of the budget. Make a list of 20 items you use all of the time, and start comparing prices on them at different stores where you shop. A winner will soon emerge. Shop there all the time to save a bundle on food. Tip #10 - Do your holiday shopping really, really early, like the day after Christmas. Everything's on sale right after the holiday and it'll still be good 364 days later when you can give those marked down items as Christmas presents. |
