Morgan Jackson: Faith Comes by Hearing, Pt. 2
(Originally broadcast January 28, 2009)
Morgan's ministry, Faith Comes by Hearing, distributes audio Bibles to people groups all over the world in their native language. Most of the people they reach are unable to read the Bible. I've traveled with Morgan and seen the power of God’s Word in action. On recent trip to Africa, I saw how poorly women are treated in many cultures. Women are abused and made to suffer. I saw people listen to God’s Word and be transformed. I saw how the lives of women improved in some of the villages after hearing God’s Word. I want the women who listen to this program to know that they can be a great help to other women by giving them the opportunity to know God’s truth. It's common practice in some cultures for young girls to be raped. The law doesn’t protect them in many of the remote villages. I saw God’s Word bring light to dark places, convict people of sin, restore the broken, and eliminate shame. God's Word set set them on a new path, teaching them how to have right relationships. Women are liberated. Here in America, we take that for granted. Crown is working with Faith Comes by Hearing to get our short film series, God Provides, to people who are receiving audio Bibles. We want to get our dramatizations of God’s Word to get to remote villages and we believe it will speak to the hearts of men and women. Morgan has encouraged me to trust God’s Word in and of itself and to do God’s work. He has many great stories that show how God’s Word changes lives. In West Africa, people are hearing the genealogy of Jesus in song. For half the world, who you are is more important than what you say. These African people are blown away when they hear the ancestral line of Jesus. People who hear the stories of the Bible enter into them, experience them. They listen in community and the stories are as real as anything happening around them. After they hear a story, they discuss it and spiritual truth comes through. Whole villages have been emotionally struck when they hear the Bible story of the woman with an issue of blood. Morgan says he rRealized listeners identify with characters in the stories. They were identifying with the woman with the blood issue. Their hearts hurt because they need Jesus and when the altar was opened, they responded. Half the world thinks God has forgotten them. People who are illiterate rip out of the pages of the Bible and try to eat them to get God’s Word in their hearts. Missionaries have given their lives to carry God’s Word to remote peoples. They've inspired Morgan to keep doing the work he’s doing. He says the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. Faith Comes by Hearing has made audio dramatizations of the Bible in 341 languages already and 230 more will be recorded in 2009. God’s Word played in a language people understand draws them to Jesus Christ. I am motivated to see God’s Word spread to every part of the world. I hope listeners will partner with Faith Comes by Hearing and make it a top priority for 2009. Our most important task is the world today is to exalt God’s Word.
