Morgan Jackson: Faith Comes by Hearing, Pt. 1
(Originally broadcast January 28, 2009)
Morgan's ministry has been an inspiration in the development of the short film series. Faith Comes by Hearing reaches people all over the world with audio Bibles in their native languages. We visited some of the listening groups on the Africa trip, and it reminded me of three things:
Today's program is a rebroadcast of a previous interview I did with Morgan back in late January. I want you to hear how God is using His Word in an audio format to change the lives of people who can’t read. You’ll be encouraged to learn God’s Word for yourself and apply its truth to your financial decisions. On our recent trip, a boy came up to me after watching the films and said he believed he had heard from God directly for the first time, instead of hearing from God through a preacher. That’s the power of God’s Word. What a privilege it is that we can hold it in our hands and be taught by God as we read it. Morgan has seen God’s power through His Word over-and-over again around the world. His stories today will remind you of what God can do. The interview will continue tomorrow. We need to be in God’s Word and live by His principles.
Faith Comes by Hearing is recording a dramatized version of the New Testament in every language in the world. The recordings have music and sound effects. So far, they've recorded in 341 languages. The recordings are put on digital solar-powered players called “Proclaimers” and given to people. When people hear a story, they get into it. They are amazed at hearing Jesus speak their language and it helps them relate and identify with Him. I share Morgan’s passion for God’s Word and want to see all people have it. I challenged you this year to read through God’s Word. No activity has had a greater impact on my life. God came alive to me and I developed a passion to help others read God’s Word. Morgan helped me understand why much of the world wouldn’t read God’s Word, but would respond to it audibly or visually. Half of the world is illiterate while 70% of people in America won’t read a book. Throughout history, Scripture was heard instead of read. There are 1,800 references to hearing in the Bible, 88 to reading, two thirds of which were public readings. People struggle to read the Bible, but if they hear it, they can understand it easily. Some of the disciples were illiterate, so Jesus never wrote anything down. He said blessed is the one who hears His words. Listening is one of the most powerful ways to experience God’s Word. If you can’t read, hearing is the first way to get Scripture. You can download it free in any language from Faith Comes by Hearing onto your computer, ipod, mp3 player. You can also can buy a memory stick with audio loaded on it. |
