Career Direct - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When the registration serial number was entered, I received a message that the registration/serial number has already been used.
  2. I can’t continue past the User Information screen. The screen is too large.
  3. Do I have to complete the entire assessment at one time?

When the registration serial number was entered, I received a message that the registration/serial number has already been used.

The registration/serial number is linked to the assessment. The registration/serial number may have been used in opening the assessment the first time. The User Information page will need to be completed in order for the assessment to be saved.

On the Main Page, click on the Continue button and this will take you to the saved assessment. Click on the name of the assessment, and the assessment will then be able to be completed.

I can’t continue past the User Information screen. The screen is too large.

If the entire user information screen is not viewable, the system fonts on the computer may need to be adjusted.

If the computer system has Windows 95, click on Start/Settings/Control Panel. Double click on the Display icon and click the Settings tab. In this screen you will see an option for font size. Change this font size to Small font. The desktop area needs to be at least 800 x 600. You may be prompted to reboot the computer.

If the computer system has Windows 98, click on Start/Settings/Control Panel. Click the Advanced button and then you will see the option for font size. Change this font size to Small font. After changes are made, click the Apply button and then OK. You may be prompted to reboot the computer.

Do I have to complete the entire assessment at one time?

No. If you have to exit the assessment before completing, be sure to use the Exit button at the bottom of the section and make sure the User Information Page has been completed. The information provided in the User Information Page is used in saving the assessment. When you are ready to finish the assessment, from the Main Page, click on the Continue button, select your name, and the program will take you back to the spot in which you exited the assessment.

Can more than one person use the software?

Yes. In order for more than one person to use the software, please call the customer service department at 1-800-722-1976 to order additional assessments. Each registration/serial number is linked to an assessment.

The serial number and registration number are the same number.

How do I get more registration/serial numbers?

You can purchase additional registration/serial numbers by calling the customer service department at 1-800-722-1976 to order additional assessments. Each registration/serial number is linked to an assessment.

I forgot my password that I used for my assessment. Is there any way I can retrieve my assessment without the password?

Once the password is used for an assessment, you will need to remember it. Write the password down someplace safe where only you will have access to it.

I want to print out one section of my assessment.

The complete assessment will need to be printed first; then the option will be available to print out the different sections of the assessment.

If the software is version 1.06 or 1.7.7, the option to print individual sections will not be available.

The option to print sections is in any version prior to 1.06 or after version 1.8.

When I enter my registration/serial number, I get a message that the number is invalid.

When entering the registration/serial number, be sure to enter the dashes. Also make sure that you use zeros instead of the letter O.

Can I load Career Direct on a hard drive other than the default drive (C:)?

At the present time Career Direct is designed to be installed on the main hard drive (C:). If it is installed on a hard drive other than the default (C:) and no installation problems occur, the program should work fine. If there are any installation problems and the attempt is then made to install it on the main hard drive (C:), there will be a conflict of files and you will need to call technical support to correct the problem.

Tip: If space is limited on the (C:) drive, move some of your data files to one or more of your other hard drive(s) and load only the software programs on the default hard drive (C:).

When I launched the program it resized my desktop and made my icons larger.

This is normal. When the Career Direct programmed is launched, the desktop icons do get larger. To make sure that the individual screens within the program will be visible, the system font setting needs to be set to small fonts and the desktop or screen size set to at least the 800 x 600 pixel size.

I have a large group of people who want to take the Career Direct assessment. Does each person have to pay the full price of the assessment?

There are actually two options available.

One, you may call our customer service at 1-800-722-1976 to purchase additional registration/serial numbers for each person taking the assessment.

Two, you may consider our Institutional version of the Career Direct software. This version requires an annual fee with unlimited access to assessments for one year. This means, as many people as you wish may take the assessment with no additional charge other than the annual fee. Please call the Life Pathways department at 1-800-822-1943 for additional information.
