Marriages Can Survive Any Economy: God's Timeless Financial Principles Speak Even Louder Today

GAINESVILLE, GA, APRIL 28, 2009 -- Because money touches almost every area of our lives, it can have a tremendous impact on marriages.  Research shows money to be a leading cause of conflict among couples and a contributing factor in divorces.  Current economic conditions heighten the challenge for couples to survive across all income levels and all marriage life stages.  Helping couples avoid being at odds over finances while building strong marriages is a long-time passion of Howard Dayton, cofounder of Crown Financial Ministries, whose newest book Money and Marriage God’s Way presents that God created marriage and provided financial principles intended to unite—not divide—couples.

Dayton’s research for the book included a focus group of marriage experts from various ministries, and the book contains true stories of couples who applied God’s financial principles and overcame challenging situations.

He notes, “God’s ways of having a terrific marriage and stable finances are very different from the way most people think and act. But they are so much higher—so much better—than most people can even imagine.”

Excluding God from financial decisions can cause misalignment in goals, resulting in confusion and divided vision. Couples are supposed to operate as one. Jesus said that when a man and woman are married, “they are no longer two, but one” (Mark 10:8 niv). This oneness can be damaged and even destroyed by financial conflicts. But couples who’ve learned and applied God’s financial principles report that their marriages are strengthened.

“Twenty years ago, my wife Sharon and I were sitting at the bottom of a pit of debt and despair, not knowing what to do or where to turn,” said Dave Ramsey, host of “The Dave Ramsey Show.” “I wish that I could reach back in time and give that clueless young couple Howard Dayton’s Money and Marriage God’s Way! This book is an absolute must read.”

A dynamic compliment to Money and Marriage God’s Way is MoneyandMarriage.org with tools, videos, information, and assistance.  Several of the features available at the Web site include a topical summary of verses related to money and possessions, a Couples Personality ID® Compatibility Assessment, an Accelerated Debt Payoff Calculator, and a Budgetometer that couples can use to compare their current spending to recommended spending plan percentages.

Money and Marriage God’s Way is published by Moody Publishers and also is available in audio format. See MoneyandMarriage.org for more information. Dayton’s other writings include the Biblical Financial Study for small groups, Free and Clear and Your Money Map.
